106 | Fuller Coal Mine Carbon, Tipple system, 1920 Fuller Coal Mine Tipple. During the Fuller tenure and before the rail line came in 1921, the mine opening was down at the bottom of the coulee just to the left in this picture. The mine had a rail system inside the mine where ponies pulled coal cars in and out of the mine at the bottom of the coulee and a cable winch system driven by horses pulled the cars on a small rail system up the hill to a tipple which dumped the coal into horse drawn wagons. The little rail cars were loaded inside the mine and pulled out by small ponies (Babe Fuller was a Pony driver). At that point the small rail cars were hitched to the winch cable and pulled up the hill on a small railway and this picture clearly shows the horses at the top of the hill walking around and pulling the cars up the hill. |

110 | Fuller Farm, lunch break during harvest, 1923 Charles Woodman Fuller is standing on the right overseeing his harvest crew - no mention that any of them are family, Except on the boy on the far left is Babe Fuller about 11 years old .... I'll bet the crew looked forward to this lunch baskets arriving, packed up by the girls on the farm with a coffee pot .... This is a wonderful picture and gives you the atmosphere that existed at the time. |

133 | Fuller, Babe Babe's first Barber Shop, 1932 - 36 The Dick Block - Built by and named after Albert Dick Babe attended Barber School in 1932 and rented the shop in this street level shop from 1932-36. His rent was $5/mo and power was $1/mo; he charged 25 cents per hair cut and more for a shave, but because this was in the depression years he could not make enough money so pay his rent. So in 1936 he sold the contents of the barber shop, except his barber tools and moved back to Carbon where he set up a barber shop and worked in the coal mine to supplement his income. |
