- Jens Andersen, 1737 – 1803, like his father, was a tenant farmer in Lyngdrup. When he was 35, he married the 20-year old Ane Larsdatter Krog, 1752 – 1827. Great-great-grandmother Anne was the daughter of Lars Berthelsen Krog and Else Margrethe Berthelsdatter Kjærulf, from Gandrup farm in V.Hassing and she was also an aunt to my great-great-grandmother Else Margrethe Berthelsdatter on Nejst. Jens and Anne had three children :
Jens Jensen, born 01/06/1774, died young
Lars Jensen, born 03.02.1776 , d.6.6.1843
Else Margrethe Jensen, born 24/12/1784 , died young.
Also in this family - like at Nejst - the economy was solid at the time. When Jens was 58 years old in 1795, he became the owner of Holtegaard in Dronninglund parish. Holtegaard belonged to the Dronninglund Manor and the tenant farmers who did tenant farmer (serfdom) work for the Manor farm were at that time allowed to buy their farm. In 1776 Holtegaard as part of the Manor, was owned by brigadier Halling. There is a story that Halling when Jens Andersen approached him to buy Holtegaard, doubted that the "tacky looking tenant farmer from Lyngdrup" could pay very much, and set the price accordingly. Only afterwards was Halling told that Jens Andersen was one of the most affluent of his tenants, and Halling is said to have been annoyed at having sold the farm too cheaply.
Jens remained the owner of Holtegaard for eight years until his death in 1803 at the age of 66 years old. The widow Anne Larsdatter was then only 51 years old, but could not run the farm by herself as she "was not quite right in the head." She became a pensioner on her son’s farm, Holtegaard until she died 24 years later.
