"Tristram Coffin (or Coffyn), Mr. son of Peter and Joanne, b ab. 1605 or '9 in Brisham (or Brixton) parish, Plymouth, Devon, Eng.; m. Dionis Stevens. He came to this county in 1642, with is mother, who d. May 1661, aged 77; his two sisters, Eunice and Mary; his wife and five childresn. C Nb (Coffins History of Newbury) states that he first came to Salisbury, thence to Haverhill the same year, thence to Newbury ab. 1648, thence in 1654/5 to S. again, where he signed his name "Commissioner of S." He was taxed in S. in 1652 and 59. In 1659, a company formed in Salis. purchased Nantucket, to which island he rem. in 1660, with his wife, mother and four chil. He died Oct 2, 1681; children 9.; Ful-Green, page 4-1-103, Ful-Sum, page 22.
