    The Charles W Fuller family Medical Book or Home Encyclopedia of Health has recently came to light as it was handed down in the family from Grace Dechanet Fuller to her daughter Belle Fuller Vaughan and then down to her daughter Barbara Vaughan and family. It has been well used and is without the front or back covers (and a few pages in the front) and is some 5 inches thick and contains some 1400 pages. The book is in fact 10 books in one and covers all aspects of health and the human body as seen by the author in 1904. It is so complete that it even covers detailed pictures of bone and muscle placement.
    We can imagine our ancestor Grace Dechanet Fuller using this book almost daily with her family of nine children and are thankful that it was handed down in the family.

    The Fuller family owned and operated the Fuller coal mine for some years about 1920. The mine opened in 1918 and went through several owners before it eventually shut down in 1930. The mine was a big part of the Fuller family life for many years. Charles also built a rooming house for the miners in the area and Grace was the cook and manager during this time it was open.

    Babe Fuller said that the boys in the Fuller family were farmers to help on the farm but they were also cowboys and loved activities of being cowboys including bucking broncs and all that goes with that. We know that some of the boys participated in the Calgary Stampede, a big yearly rodeo event.
    Glen signed up for the army in 1916 and listed as "Ranch Cowboy" as his profession or trade and in another questionnaire he listed "Horse Breaker" as his profession. Harry listed "Farmer" on his.

It seems that Fuller was trying to pry loose a large body of coal when a huge rock was loosened above falling and cruching the man. He was rushed to Drumheller hospital, where he died at 4:30 PM without gaining consciousness."; Ful-Cw6, p 5-1/2, 5-6, Various.

      CARBON MINER KILLED BY FALL OF ROCK TODAY --A ton of rock fell on Alfred Michael Fuller, 36, miner at the Black Diamond Mine, Carbon, this afternoon, causing multiple injuries, which later resulted in death.

      It was thought that Fuller was dead when extricated from the debris, until some slight movement was noticed and it was found that the injured man was alive. He was immediately removed to the Drumheller Hospital in Winter Bros.' ambulance, but succumbed two hours later. Dr. Gibson will hold an inquest on Friday.

      From The Drumheller Mail, 5 Mar 1931, pg 1:
      JURY RETURNS AN ACCIDENTAL DEATH VERDICT, MINER - Inquest Into Death of Carbon Miner Held at Drumheller; Funeral Sunday. An inquest was held at Drumheller on Friday afternoon, following the death of Alfred Fuller, a miner at the Black Diamond mine, Carbon, who succumbed two hours after admission to the Drumheller hospital. He was fatally injured by a fall of rock in the mine. The verdict of the jury given to Dr. G.M. Gibson, coroner, was as follows:

      "We, the jury impanelled to inquire into the cause of the death of Alfred Fuller, do find that Alfred Fuller came to his death by accident caused by a fall of rock in the room where he was working, being room 6, sixth entry west, in the Black Diamond mine, Carbon, Alberta, on February 26, 1931."

      The jury consisted of: T.S. Branson (foreman), R. Steven, W. Gibson, Melville Diggs, James K. Adam, E.W. Spencer. Dr. Brogden testified that Fuller's death was due to shock, a fracture of the skull and several other injuries. Two miners, K. Bolog and M. Kapinuik, working near Fuller, heard the roof fall in and rushed to help release Fuller's body, but this was impossible -- the slab of rock being about five feet square and ten inches thick. Further aid was necessary to extricate the injured man.

      The manager of the Black Diamond mine, J.H. Oliphant, stated that Fuller had been in the company's service for several years and that he was a capable and reliable miner. Oliphant had inspected the room the day before the accident and seeing a crack in the roof told Fuller to place a boom under the defected part, which the latter did. It is believed that as work proceeded later, the boom slipped and allowed the roof to fall in. Constable Jones, of the Alberta Provincial Police department, at Carbon, conducted the inquiry on behalf of the police, and Bernard Nugent, inspector of mines, of Camrose, was in charge of the proceedings in the interest of the Department of Mines.

      The funeral of the late Mr. Fuller was held at Carbon on Sunday afternoon with services at the Carbon United Church. The Rev. W. McNicholl read the burial service, and Mr. R.J. Fairbairn officiated at the organ. Mrs. S.F. Torrance was the soloist. Interment was made in the Carbon cemetery in the presence of a large gathering of friends. The pallbearers were: C.L. Mancell, L. Mancell, R. Skerry, W. Zeigler, W. Birtles and J. Mansley.

      Floral tributes were received from: Annetta and Peggy; Mr. and Mrs. Douglas and family; Mr. and Mrs. Poxon and family; Carbon Old Timers' Association; Dad and Mother; Babe Oliver and Ralph, Dora, Nels and family; Mr. and Mrs. J.H.
