Elma said that she could remember the first time she saw Babe at the dance and it was love at first sight. Elma received several cows as a wedding present from her parents and the money received from the sale of each ($45) bought furniture for their new home, a sewing machine and some inventory (candy, cigarettes, etc) for the pool hall. They were both used to hard work and that is what was needed to start from nothing and build a home, a business and a family.
