THOMAS TARBALL, supposed to be the progenitor of all the families of that name in New England, settled in Watertown as early as 1656, when be was about 38 years old. By wife MARY, he had, 1. Elizabeth, b. Jan. 5, 1656-7. 2. William, b. Feb. 26, 1658-9. It is probable that he had at least two chil. b. before he settled in Wat.; for Thomas Tarball, Sr.. and Jr., were original proprietors of Groton, in 1662: and Abigail Tarball, supposed to be his dr., m., in Wat., Sept. 30, 1672, Joshua Whitney.; Ful-Sum3, p 5 Whitney, Ful-Sum3, Whitney.

Thomas Tarbell was born in 1618 & settled @ Watertown, Middlesex County, Massachusetts as early as 1647. He sold his property there in 1663 & removed to Groton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. After the destruction of Groton, Massachusetts, during the King Philip's War, he removed to Charlestown, Massachusetts
1st marriage was to Mary, who was born in 1620, she died @ Groton, MA 4/29/1674
2nd marriage was to Susanna Lawrence, widow of John Lawrence. Susanna died on 1/5/1691 @ Charlestown, MA
Thomas died of Smallpox on 6/11/1678 @ Charlestown, MA
Thomas & his wife Mary's children were: (all by 1st wife)
1. Thomas Tarbell, Jr. (1638-1678)married Hannah Longley
2. Mary Tarbell (1640-1676) married Jonathan Sawtell
3. Sarah Tarbell (1648-bef 1670) married Cornelius Church
4. Abigail Tarbell (1650-) married Joshua Whitney
5. John Tarbell (1654-1715) married Rebecca Nurse @ Salem MA
6. Elizabeth Tarbell (1656-1684) married James Bennett
7. Martha Tarbell (-)married Thomas Mitchell
8. William Tarbell (1658-) soldier in King Philip's War
9. Susanna Tarbell (1678-) married Abraham Holman
Susanna was born after the death of Thomas' first wife. Susanna born in 1678 must have been the daughter of Thomas and his second wife Susanna Lawrence.

(II.) JOSHUA WHITNEY, went eaily to Groton, where the births of 3 chil. are recorded. He afterwards lived some time in Watertown, whither he probably returned upon the outbreak of King Philip's War.
