[S14] Obituary, Wabasha Herald, (April 7, 1927), Obit: “Oliver Cratte Jr, another of the old landmarks of Wabasha, passed away Sunday morning [1927, April 3] at 11:45 at the home of his niece, Mrs. Alex Huddleston in this city, after a week's illness during which time he had developed a slight attack of pneumonia. Oliver Cratte Jr was the son of Oliver Cratte and Jane Campbell Cratte, one of the first white settlers on what is now the city of Wabasha. The elder Cratte built the first house in this city, having come here in the year 1838. Oliver Cratte Jr was born about the year 1847, although the exact date of his birth was unknown as the early records of the family had been lost. He was the eldest of a family of 14 children. During his early life, Mr. Cratte […] the river on which he was employed in various capacities. The last eighteen years of his life he has spent in the home of his niece, Mrs. Alex Huddleston. He is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. O. H. [Mary] Roundy, Mrs. George [Lucy] McLeod and Mrs. Frank [Esther] Couture, all of this city; Mr. Daniel Cratte also of Wabasha and Mr. T. Cratte of St. Paul. Funeral services were held from the St. Felix Catholic church in this city at 9 o'clock a.m. Tuesday, April 5th, and interment was made in St. Felix cemetery. Those from a distance who were here to attend funeral were Mrs. Perry Owens, Baker, Oregon; Dale Grimm, Milwaukee, WI; Harry Huddleston and Mrs. Margaret Harding, Lake City, MN.
